3 ON THE BUND

I've had many opportunities to introduce you to bands from this university. Once again, here is a very young band that has emerged from this prestigious university. It was during their studies that the four members of 3 on the Bund met and decided to combine their talents in yet another quality band.

All four come from different backgrounds, which contributes to the diversity of their sound. On harp and concertina, Aisling Lyons from County Clare, eight times Irish champion. On guitar and banjo, Seán Kelliher who started playing music at the age of 7 and comes from Kerry. On fiddle and piano, Rebecca McCarthy comes from the south-east, Tramore, a small fishing village south of Waterford. And finally, Simon Pfisterer is not Irish but German and more precisely from Bavaria. He tried his hand at various bagpipes before settling on the uilleann pipes, which he came to Ireland to play.
Formed in 2019, the band offers us a particularly brilliant first album Frenzy, on which the complex arrangements contribute to the quality of the whole. A mixture of traditional tunes and more recent compositions, all played with energy and passion, there is a piece by concertina player Niall Vallely, another by Cathal Hayden and we are even surprised to hear Local Hero, a tune composed by Mark Knopfler in 1983 for the film of the same name.

And then several of them also wrote: Rebecca: Frenzy, New Year's Day or Trip to Pocahontas. Seán: Not What It Seems, Cover Confusion or Rosewood. As well as Aisling, the polka Through the Roof.
And two songs performed by Róisín Ryan, I Wish I Had Someone to Love Me and The Island from the repertoire of the Scottish band Skipinnish.
Frenzy is an excellent first album from a young band whose potential is just waiting to explode.
