I had the chance to meet and work with Alessia Tondo, singer of the group Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino (a traditional music group from Puglia dedicated to the Pizzica dance, the tarantella of Salento).
Today she offers us a magnificent solo album full of emotion, sensuality, generosity and light! Alessia Tondo is one of the most important voices in the popular music of Salento (in French Salente or Salentin is the peninsula forming the south-eastern end of the Apulia region in Italy). This region has a strong and living musical heritage and Alessia is totally immersed in it. Sometimes she whispers in polyphony (A pucundria) intimate words that speak of her personal history, later it is a warm guitar that exchanges with her warm voice (Pacenza), or a percussion that remembers her voice and strength (A pucundria rimedio).
She composed all the lyrics of this album with folk, ethnic and pop sounds, with guest friends Mauro Durante of the Canzoniere Grecanico Salentino on violin and Redi Hasa on cello. This album was born from the life of Alessia Tondo, who speaks to us of her solitude, her fears, her joy of living, of singing and dancing. Her choice of minimalist arrangements make this album an inner journey into the heart of a culture and the life of a modern woman who questions herself and takes us as witnesses. Sita means pomegranate in the Salento dialect, and this fruit is the symbol of sharing, generosity and fertility! Album to be enjoyed without moderation....
