Didier Laloy Symphonic

musical meeting at the heart

Gérard Viel

Diatonic and symphonic accordion

Didier Laloy is an artist apart in the musical landscape, in the sense that his various artistic projects are always innovative and open to the world! His creations never stand still, and his diatonic accordion has a universal dimension that knows no borders. Over the years he's taken us on a journey with Trio Trad, Treff, Samouraï, Algeria et Liberta, Belem, Belem et Mekanic, 100 Voltas and his many collaborations and recordings (he's been involved in over 200 albums), always in unusual universes and with strong human relationships. This autumn, in 2023, he'll be taking us by surprise once again, celebrating 30 years in the music business with 30 concerts! New in his work, Didier has taken up the challenge of combining his compositions with classical music. Childhood dream? Or madness? Didier worked with two of Belgium's leading classical music figures, Jean-Luc Fafchamps and Gwenaël-Mario Grisi, on the arrangements. But the big surprise is that this 'Didier Laloy Symphonic' album was recorded in Cuba with the Orquesta Sinfonico Del Lyceum De La Havana, conducted by José Antonio Méndez Padrón. This highly respected Cuban conductor says that "the famous Cuban popular music that we all know as Salsa, Son, Mambo, Bolero, etc. has its roots in classical music and in the 19th century". There's also a nice surprise in the compositions by three young Cubans: Pepe Gavilondo, Jorge Amado and René Baños, who bring a new musical dimension to Didier Laloy's work. The result of this album is fabulous, astonishing and full of emotion and sensitivity. Didier's accordion playing is delicate, refined and danceable; he fuses, crosses, meets and gives a new dimension to his works thanks to this symphony orchestra. The Havana Symphony Orchestra had never played with an accordionist before! And the two neophytes have found each other, giving us a magnificent album that bridges the gap between traditional and classical music! The notes speak together, caressing and brushing against each other, taking us to a country where music is the language of all. This project was made possible by the energy and passion of Poney Gross from Zig Zag World Productions (https://www.zigzagworld.be/). To bring this "Didier Laloy Symphonic" creation to life, the production has planned a tour with a Belgian orchestra: L'Orchestre de Chambre de la Néthen and the Ensemble Quartz. So, programmers beware! Don't miss this album.
