Let Fred Guichen's music enter through your door
A captivating and magical accordion! This is my first impression of Fred Guichen's new album "The Island Gate". I will never forget my first meeting with this musician of Ar Re Yaouank during a memorable concert at the Festival des Traversées Tatihou in 1996! This band revolutionized music to dance Breton with an energy, a very new sound at this time for the fest-noz! Their contemporary arrangements are still a reference in 2019. Then Fred Guichen has traveled the world and in the sandstone of his meetings he has forged an identity personalizing his game of accordion and innovative always looking for notes to make vibrate and dance the public. This third album will remain in your memory by the soothing atmosphere it brings us. What is surprising is that I had the feeling to have already heard this music! Fred Guichen is so imbued with his Breton culture that he is able today to compose tunes to dance that seem to come from another era! But make no mistake the whole CD sounds very contemporary and never boring or repetitive! The whole of this album is composed by Fred Guichen, his accordion playing is dancing, his fingers caress the keyboard as if he caress a beautiful! To finalize his compositions, he surrounded himself with musical friends: Dónal Lunny, Jacques Pellen, Sylvain Barrou, Sylvaine Guichen, Erwan Moal, Youen Wheel, Lionel Le Page, Pierre Muller, Yann Pelliet. The artist offers us a beautiful album, where the man and the accordion meet to open the "gate of the island" that we must not close!
