IVARH
Huñvre
Philippe Cousin
After Splann, their first album of six tracks, Ivarh have finally released a full-length album, Huñvre (The dream in Breton). Quite a programme!
The adventure began in 2020 when two friends, singer Elouan Le Sauze and guitarist Pablo Molard, decided to form a duo. Both have a Diplôme National Supérieur Professionnel de Musicien, gained in Rennes. They were soon joined in 2021 by Ewen Couriaut (saxophones), and the Bessé brothers, Benjamin (electric guitar and keyboards) and Thomas (drums and percussion). The Ivarh quintet was born.
The word Ivarh in Breton means a path between two hedges, where people meet, come and go. These musical explorers from a variety of backgrounds inject their own personal touches into the band, playing music that flirts with both tradition and rock.
Their music is as original as it is deeply rooted in their home region of Kreiz-Breizh. And most of all, the songs, carried by Elouan's superb voice, are omnipresent on the 10 tracks of this beautiful album. In Breton, the singer from Lorient tackles ancient subjects - Ar Roue Stevan - an 18th-century beggar and prophet who predicted the evolution of the world and humanity with blinding clairvoyance. As well as eternal and contemporary themes: love (Ar Vugulez - Tuchant - Ar Galon Digor), death (Kreiz), travel (Ar Veaj - Lârit Din) and, of course, dreams (Huñvre).
Throughout this opus, you'll find yourself in a musical universe of varied influences, from rock to world music, taking you on a journey from Brittany to the East, Africa and the Balkans.
Their music is dynamic, contemporary and sometimes soaring. That's to be expected, given that we've set off on a dreamy journey. A dream that takes you down the byways of Brittany. A total success.
