KORRONTZI ET XABIER AMURIZA
KOPLARIAK

the rhythmic dance of words
In 2007 the Korrontzi musicians gave their first concert in France as part of the Traversées Tatihou festival in Normandy. Since then, they have become a reference group in the Iberian Peninsula, paying tribute to the ancient players of the "trikitixa", the Basque diatonic accordion. Founded in 2004 by Agus Barandiaran, a passionate accordionist and staunch defender of Basque folk music, Korrontzi defies prejudice! Modern, mixed, embellished by influences from all over the world, its music takes on a contemporary air, refreshing an originally travelled repertoire. For their tenth album, they present the result of the collaboration between Korrontzi and Xabier Amuriza (bertsolari, writer and researcher). With this work, they return to their roots, giving the "koplagintza" the place it deserves within traditional music. The bertsolari ("versifier" in Basque) is a singer of rhymed and strophied verses in Basque called bertso. These improvisations in verse performed before an audience, sung and improvised, are an oral tradition from the Basque Country that has been able to evolve and adapt to the times, establishing a link with the younger generations. The meeting of Korrontzi and Xabier Amuriza brings us a breath of freshness and freedom of sound and rhythm that is good for us.
