Kristine HeeBoell

Pernambuk

Gérard Viel

A surprising and thematic album around a rare tree: Pernambuco

Tree from Brazil, (but also a Brazilian state) is very dense, like the oak, its density is up to twice as high. It has been used since the 18th century to make bows that are sought after by the greatest violinists, because it provides great resistance to the bow. The human and artistic encounter between Kristine Heebøll, (Trio Moi) and Timo Alakotila (JPP group) took place during musical evenings first around the traditional repertoire. Kristine is one of the greatest references as a violinist and composer on the Danish folk scene. Timo is one of the most active, versatile and sought-after musicians in Finland. He is a composer, arranger, pianist and harmonica player in the fields of folk, classical, jazz and pop. His career started in 1982 as a harmonica player and founding member of the group JPP, which quickly established itself as the best and most innovative violin music group in Finland. This album is mainly works composed by Kristine Heebøll (she was named Composer of the Year in 2019 at the Danish Folk Awards), and when Timo put his piano down on her compositions Kristine said: "It was exactly the kind of accompaniment and music that had only existed in my head". The fusion of violin and piano is clear and warm; they meet, exchange notes for our greatest pleasure. This record is a long listened to in order to embark on a journey into the Scandinavian imagination.
