LOENED FALL

Yes, these ‘rascals’ have been tearing up the stages of festoù-noz in Brittany and elsewhere since the mid-1990s. Four albums between 1999 and 2014, and then nothing. But it was all to come back stronger with a superb album recorded live in Kreiz-Breizh (central Brittany) in January 2025. Loened Fall is still Marthe Vassalo and Ronan Guéblez on kan ha diskan (vocals), Hervé Bertho on violin, Ronan Le Dissez on bombarde and wooden flute, and Marc Thouénon on bouzouki.

Start da lac'ho is the anniversary album celebrating their thirty years on stage. On this album, the band members reaffirm their unique place in the Breton music scene. ‘At the crossroads of tradition, subtle arrangements and live energy’.
And dance is in their blood, one might say, given the rage, joyful madness and startijenn (energy) they bring to getting their regular fest-noz audience dancing. The band combines the power of kan ha diskan with expressive instrumental accompaniment.
A wild Plin suite, a delicate gavotte, a frenzied Fisel suite and an anthology Kost-ar-C'hoad follow one another and intertwine, interspersed with a hanter-dro or a waltz that brings a little serenity to this musical maelstrom celebrating Breton dance, bringing it to its climax.
Our five rascals make just enough room for their friend Jean Baron and his bombarde, as well as singer Nolùen Le Buhé on three songs with Marthe. And let's not forget violinist Pierre Stephan on two tracks. Fifteen tracks in all, enough to make you sweat with healthy fatigue. With more than 900 festoù-noz under their belt, ‘Al loened fall zo start da lac'ho’, which means ‘bad beasts are hard to kill’. That's excellent news. They're ready to hit the dance floor again.
