Whilst seeking to breathe new life into old songs, she also performs a few of her own compositions: 'Èrinn' and 'Starlings'. Many of the songs on the album have been passed down from generation to generation, preserving the language and spirit of Islay’s Gaelic community.

Throughout this wonderful album, timeless themes are present: love, the loss of a loved one, emigration and a sense of belonging to one’s homeland. These are songs that speak of personal experiences yet remain deeply rooted in tradition.
Ten tracks in total, all in Gaelic except for two songs in English. The album opens with the rousing rhythms of ‘S Mòr mo Chùram’, swept along by the sea. This track is followed by two others in which Mairi’s crystal-clear voice is beautifully showcased: ‘A Mhic an Tòisich’, ‘’s Ceanalt’ Thu’ and ‘Buain a’ Choirce’.

In contrast, the next track, 'Ceann Tràgh Ghruinneart', is a rather sombre lament in which sadness permeates every note, evoking Sir McLean, who was killed in a battle between two clans. This track features the famous singer Kathleen MacInness. 'Ach a Dhòmhnaill Òig Ghaolaich' is a song previously performed by Karen Matheson and Capercaillie. Next, ‘This Love Will Carry’ is a melancholic song by the songwriter Dougie McLean. Finally, ‘Mo Ghaol Òigfhear’ brings the album to a close with the plaintive cry of a young woman from St Kilda for her lover who has remained on Islay.
Isla Callister on the fiddle, Sean Gray on guitar, John Lowrie on piano and a few others provide a delicate accompaniment that highlights – if any further proof were needed – the superb, ethereal voice of a young woman who is well worth discovering.
