MOYA BRENNAN & CORMAC DE BARRA

Timeless

Philippe Cousin

While the group Clannad will celebrate its 50th anniversary next year, Moya Brennan, its singer, continues her own career with nine solo albums and three with harpist Cormac De Barra, including the present album Timeless.

Both from famous musical families, Donegal for Moya and Cork for Cormac, they have been playing together for nearly twenty years and have already made two albums in 2011 and 2013 under the Voices and Harps banner. This album symbolizes their complicity and a most creative collaboration since no less than seven of the ten tracks are original compositions. A composition by Christine McVie, Songbird and two traditional ones, Páistín Fionn and Mac Diarmada Rua, completing this elegant album on which the harps of these two virtuosos weave a delicate canvas, supported by Moya's deep voice and Cormac's warmer one, which demonstrates that in addition to being a talented harpist, he is also an excellent singer.

Their families assist them on the album: Aisling and Paul, Moya's children and Tim Jarvis her husband. And the flutist Éamonn De Barra, Cormac's brother. Among the many musicians are Claire Friel, a young and talented Donegal violinist and Martin Tourish, Altan's accordionist, as well as Lynne Earls on keyboards and guitar and also producer of the album. You will notice in passing the canvas of the jacket of Moya's hand who is also an excellent painter. The only flaw of this superb album is its brevity.
