NOËL EN BRETAGNE - NEDELEG E BREIZH

NOËL EN BRETAGNE - NEDELEG E BREIZH

Philippe Cousin

As every year at this time of the year, Christmas records flourish. Yet curiously in Brittany, this is a tradition that has not really been practised, with a few exceptions, even though Christmas songs are numerous.

This shortcoming has now been remedied with the release of the album Noël en Bretagne - Nedeleg e Breizh. Fifteen tracks in all, Christmas carols, canticles, shepherds' songs, secular or sacred texts, as many adaptations of traditional songs, old or new compositions on original arrangements, all in order to make you feel the magic of Christmas.

The singers are numerous, with a parity of men and women, a parity of Breton and French languages, and a choice casting, combining the new generation with more experienced singers.
Let's have a look at it. Alongside Denez Prigent, Annie Ebrel or Mathieu Hamon, we find young people, Aziliz Manrow, Quentin Morvan, Jérémy Kerno, Piala Louis as well as, more surprisingly, Rosemary Standley of the Franco-American group Moriarty on a song in Breton Jezus Krouadur.
Alongside them, a dozen musicians, led by Romain Sponnagel as artistic director: Frédérique Lory on piano, Aziliz Laudrin on violin, Mathilde Chevrel on cello, Nolwenn Arzel and Marion Le Solliec on harp, Jo Van Bouwel on flutes and percussion, Tony Ballester on bass and Yacine Azeggagh on guitars and production.
Christmas songs we say, we will notice Noël Nouvelet and Nos vœux d'Enfance by Aziliz Manrow, C'était à l'Heure de Minuit by Mathieu Hamon, Ar Bloavezh Mat, An Erc'h war an Enezeg, Chant à la Vierge and Gwiadoù Loar by Annie Ebrel. Or the deep voice of Denez on Petra a-nevez er Bed and Heol Noz. In the category of pleasant discoveries, the diaphanous voice of Piala Louis on Nous Voici dans la Ville. And then, my favourite, Kanomp Noel ! by Jérémy Kerno and Quentin Morvan.
The whole thing is quite successful, presented in a superb case with winter photos of the Monts d'Arrée and the Mont Saint-Michel of Brasparts.
If I add that you will be able to listen to all these beautiful people during a unique concert on December 17th at the Saint-Corentin cathedral in Quimper, you will know everything.
