String Sisters

Between wind and water

Gérard Viel

A team of magical violists, surrounded by fantastic musicians, for a current music!

Bringing together the best violists in the world of traditional and folk music, string sisters offers a Masterful album or fusion of cultures, and sonorities rarely matched this qualitative level. The team of string sisters consists of Annbjørg lien (Norway), Catriona McDonald (Shethland Islands), Emma Härdelin (Sweden), Liz Caroll (United States-Ireland), Liz Knowles (Ireland), and Mairéad NI Mhaonaigh (Ireland). The originality of this project is also due to the musicians accompanying this magnificent "dream team". Dave Milligan at the piano, Tor Bruvoll on guitar, Conrad Mollesoon on bass, and James Mackhintosh on drums and percussion. The whole of this CD is a musical Marvel, sensual, dynamic and with arrangements that take root in each country and open to contemporary music, emotional with jazz, classical, pop and folk atmospheres. The magical voices of Emma Härdelin and Mairéad ní Mhaonaigh are supported by the strings caked with violins and the rhythmic section wraps the whole with softness and emotion. The repertoire consists of composed works or traditional tunes revisited, and in one piece you find Scandinavian music flirting with celtitude and arrangements that embark us in a country without borders for a music lively and warm. With the album "between wind and water" by string sisters, (recorded in the Shetland Islands), traditional music is present and is part of the so-called "contemporary music", with a repertoire that takes its roots in several traditions, to make it live without taboo.
