The Celtic Social Club

From Babylon to Avalon

Gérard Viel

Celtic music revisited with talent and generosity!

When this group was born five years ago at the festival of Vieilles Charrues, many thought "in silence" to a group formed by opportunism! Today the happy band of the Celtic Social Club gathered around the drummer Manu Masko shows us that with this third album, they affirm and assume their artistic project 100% in the heart of Celtic music revisited. Originally the idea was to travel in the Celtic repertoire while bringing a folk, rock, pop, reggae, rap! This new record is still in the same movement, but the group has matured and developed a personal sound, a warm dynamic feeling, which has nothing to envy the best Irish bands, or Scottish yesterday or today. The arrival of Belfast guitar singer Dan Donnelly uninhibited them to be only French musicians playing Celtic music. This album sometimes sounds like the good old days of the mythical Waterboys, The Pogues, New Celeste, with passages in more electro acoustic ambiences of Chieftains, Dubliners, Planxty, Clannad, and closer to us the inevitable precursors Alan Stivel, and Dan Ar Braz ... But make no mistake The Celtic Social Club is not just standard covers! They compose, rehabilitate in the spirit "social-club" taking into account the identity and the course of each musician. It's a pleasure to rediscover "black is the color", or the beautiful tribute to Joe Strummer "Remember Joe Strummer". Special mention for the quality of sound recording and mixing, each instrument is present, the energy and warmth of music reaches us right to the heart. Composed of the best musicians of the Celtic folk rock scene with Ronan Le Bars (uilleann pipe, low whistle), Pierre Stephan (violin), Goulven Hamel (guitars, banjo, mandolin), Richard Puaud (bass), Mathieu Péquériau (harmonica, washboard) ), the Celtic Social Club proves that in France there are groups able to question, and to bring to the public a rooted music that does not fall into the ease and is played with passion, sensitivity and sincerity. The Celtic Social Club is the reference today in the field of contemporary trad music, advice to all lovers of authentic and dynamic music with a Celtic personality claimed. To all the programmers of festivals and cultural venues, do not hesitate to engage with The Celtique Social Club for a concert off the beaten path of the celtitude!
