TRI YANN

50 ans de scène

Philippe Cousin

That was in 1970 that Tri Yann an Naoned, as they were called at the time, launched themselves on Breton stages, at the very beginning of the Celtic musical revival.

And in 1972 they produced their first LP, the first of a long series since fifty years later, to the great surprise of the musicians themselves, they still occupy the front of the Breton and French stages. However, all good things must come to an end and by mutual agreement the three Jean and their friends decided to put an end to their numerous tours. To do this, they organised a Kenavo Tour (goodbye in Breton language) which, in almost six months and more than twenty dates, took them to some of France's biggest cities to bid farewell. And to mark this tour with a white stone, they recorded an album entitled 50 ans de scène (50 years on stage) at the Les Nuits Salines festival in Batz-sur-Mer, west of Nantes, last July.

For the occasion there are a CD and a DVD that they offer us in a single box. Some of the many tracks that have made their success for fifty long years. Seventeen titles on the CD and twenty-two on the DVD. We are pleased to find Far Away From Skye, Divent an dour, Le soleil est noir and the unavoidable Tri Martolod, Pelot d'Hennebont, Les Filles des Forges or The Jument de Michao. And then icing on the cake (birthday cake), a new one, Les rives du Loch Lomond which is also the subject of a video clip visible on the net. Even if they put an end to their tours, the Tri Yann don't admit defeat and don't intend to stop there with the music and the albums. There are even rumours that a next album is already in the pipeline. So long live these precursors of the Breton scene and see you in the years to come.
