TYPHAINE CORRE & TANGI LE GALL-CARRÉ

Gouloù mil steredenn

Philippe Cousin

Seven albums with the band Startijenn, which he helped to form in 1997 when he was just 14 years old.

Then two albums with guitarist Erwan Moal in 2013 and 2018. More recently, he contributed to the creation of War Hent Youenn Gwernig. And finally, in 2021, his first solo instrumental album, Neus.
Accordion player Tangi Le Gall-Carré is back, this time in a duo with his partner, singer Typhaine Corre, for a superb album entitled Gouloù mil steredenn (The Light of a Thousand Stars). Typhaine and Tangi had already collaborated on the show dedicated to Youenn Gwernig. This time, they form a remarkable duo.
Rooted in the Breton language, with twelve tracks sung in this language, the album draws its inspiration from eight sensitive texts by the poet Naïg Rozmor and four songs written by Herve Ar Gall, Tangi's father.
This album gives pride of place to women, their rights and their emancipation. An album that highlights strong female figures such as Marion du Faouët, Rouanez al laeron, Joséphine Pencalet and the sardine workers of Douarnenez, Fulor Ruz, and Jeanne Malivel, a painter from the early 20th century and one of the founders of the Seiz Breur movement, Plac'h an Arz-Nevez. A poetic journey and a hymn to Breton heroines.
Twelve songs and one instrumental tune, Vals Milig, in tribute to their son. Thirteen tracks in total, all composed by Tangi Le Gall-Carré himself. Music that plays with Breton tradition, infusing it with influences from folk, jazz and blues. Music that is sometimes light, sometimes more energetic, skilfully serving the lyrics of the two authors.
Three musicians contributed their talents: Julien Stévenin on bass guitar, Jérôme Kerihuel on drums and percussion, and Jack Titley on mandolin and banjo.
Three singers, Gwenn An Dreo, Justine Morvan and Perynn Bleunven, also joined Typhaine.
The result is a delicate, profound album, imbued with a palpable sensitivity, on which the musical harmony is perfect. An album that will make its mark on the Breton music scene.
