Vingefang

A female duo without borders

Gérard Viel (Translation by John Bro)

New from Danish label Go 'Danish Folk

« Vingefang », a surprising and captivating album, to discover on the Danish label www.gofolk.dk, brought to you by Lene Host (voice, piano, guitar and percussion) and Miriam Ariana (voice, violin et percussion) with a few guests on some pieces. They met at the Danlish Academy of Music where they studied folk music. Their enthusiasm for travel and for dance originated their cultural project. The album breathes voyage, sensuality and the fusion of cultures. The artistic project is set from the first track with their two voices in harmony, sustained by strings and percussions that transport us to the heart of the tradition and techniques of Scandinavian song. The following piece confuses the issue because the influence of the language and the rhythm is African. Next, they offer us an « infinite waltz » in perfect French which takes on the essential themes of life and death without sadness. This CD is truly a tribute to life, love and death without ever falling into convenience or tristesse. Occasionally one gets the feeling that there are bridges to the Finnish group « Gjallarhorn » and to their singer Jenny Wilhelms. Don’t pass over this disk, « The Echo of Time », that approaches life in all its forms with dynamic strings and warm, sensual voices.
