Originally from Roundstone in the heart of Connemara, Fiachra O'Regan was immersed in traditional music from an early age, beginning his apprenticeship on the tin whistle at the age of 11. In his teens he tried his hand at the banjo, with great success. But it was finally to the uilleann pipes that he turned in 1997. Shortly afterwards, he ordered his first set of uilleann pipes, an instrument that has remained with him ever since.

Following on from Runrig in the 70s to 2000 and Capercaillie in the 80s to 2010, a new generation of Scottish bands has emerged, most recently Mànran, Talisk and Ímar. The latest to grace the stages of Glasgow and Edinburgh, Gnoss have already released three albums since 2019 - that's how prolific they are.
